Modern Bridge

CORPORATE ELECTRICAL SAFETY PROGRAM

Developed electrical safety program that drove compliance with NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code), NFPA70B (Electrical Maintenance Code), and NFPA70E (Electrical Safety Code). For 21 industrial facilities and over 5000 employees. The facilities were spread across North America located in Oregon, Idaho, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and one in Canada.

NFPA70E ARC FLASH STUDIES WITH ARC FLASH LABELS

Provided NFPA70E calculations and arc flash labels for 12 commercial buildings that range from 50,000sqft to over 100,000sqft. The arc flash labels created also allowed the maintenance staff to understand what PPE they needed to work on specific pieces of equipment.

NFPA70B ELECTRICAL MAINTENANCE STANDARD AUDIT AND GAP ASSESSMENT

Provided onsite inspection gap assessment that included a spreadsheet with over 8000 electrical items. The gap assessment also included recommended maintenance schedule and maintenance steps that were then copied and pasted into a CMMS software called Maximo.

NFPA70, NFPA70B, AND NFPA70E ELECTRICAL SAFETY TRAINING

Developed 330 min of formal online classes that provided training for NFPA70E (Electrical Safety), NFPA70B  (Electrical Maintenance), NFPA70 (National Electrical Code)

POWER STUDIES

Provided onsite data collection and developed electrical models in SKM format for 21 industrial facilities. Models included: Time Current Curve circuit breaker and fuse coordination, transformer inrush protection, harmonic calculations, short circuit calculations, incident energy calculations, arc flash labels, voltage drop, conductor sizing, and conduit sizing.

GROUNDING STUDY

Provided electrical engineering peer review of grounding grid for a 500,000sqft commercial building.

SEATTLE - AREA BIOTECH FACILITIES

Staff - Initial Consultant Role led to Direct Hire - Electrical Engineering Director 2020-2024
I provided electrical engineering calculation support and oversight for Arc Flash studies, Harmonic studies, Phase Balancing studies, Time Current Curve (TCC) coordination, and commercial lighting photometrics for 12 commercial buildings that ranged from 50,000 square feet to approximately 110,000 square feet.

Canyon Park and North Creek Buildings, phase 1 define NFPA70, NFPA70B, and NFPA70E gaps and define phase 2 - 2020, phase 2 inspections and define phase 3 - 2021, phase 3 NFPA70B testing of 600V and below power distribution equipment and define phase 4 - 2022, phase 4 remove and replace equipment 2023 & 2024.
I provided electrical engineering calculation support and oversight that included #12 - 750kcmil conductor sizing and 1" - 4" EMT and RMC conduit sizing, 100A-4000A circuit breaker and fuse sizing, 30A-600A local disconnect sizing, 300A-4000A motor control center vertical and horizontal bus sizing, 24DCV-208ACV motor control center communication network configuration, 100KW- 2.5MW generator sizing, 1-300KVA UPS sizing, 500KVA- 2500KVA transformer sizing, 200A-800A low voltage panel sizing, HVAC upgrades, Fluorescent to LED Lighting upgrades, scientific lab expansion upgrades, fume hoods replacement and upgrades, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) upgrades, Building Automation System upgrades, Building Management System upgrades, Building Fire Alarm upgrades, energy management power monitoring system upgrades, and electronic vehicle (EV) charging station installations.

STAFF AUGMENTATION - PRINCIPAL ELECTRICAL ENGINEER

During all of the below mentioned projects I performed calculations to design and I was in responsible charge of the designs. The calculations that I performed or were in responsible charge for are the following:
Arc Flash Studies, Short Circuit Studies, Time Current Curve Analysis Studies, circuit breaker load studies, transformer load studies, switchgear load studies, switchboard load studies, motor control center load studies, and panelboard load studies. Transformer distribution design (480V). Motor Control Center and Switchgear design (480V and 15kV). Power Distribution Panels design (120V, 240V, 208V, 277V, and 480V).
Single Line Diagrams design (Plant wide and individual MCCs). Three Line Diagrams design (individual motor control schematics). Device location general arrangements and Wiring schematics design. Lighting Calculations and Drawings design. Cable Tray, Conduit, and Ductbank design.

The following is a list of projects that utilized the previously mentioned calculations:

Medium Voltage Overhead Project, that included removing existing overhead MV
distribution for two 1500kVA pad mount transformers and installing new pole mounted reclosers, SEL 351R relays, and ground operated air break switches.

Medium Voltage Overhead Project, that included adding new overhead MV distribution for two 1500kVA pad mount transformers and installing new pole mounted reclosers, SEL 351R relays, and ground operated air break switches.

480V Distribution Projects, included replacing a 2000A switchboard, one 1200A motor control center (MCC) and adding one new electrical room, Medium Voltage and 480V Distribution, $1M, included removing existing overhead MV distribution and adding new 15kV Eaton switchgear with SEL 751 relays, new pole mounted recloser and SEL 351R relay, and ground operated air break switch.

Medium Voltage, 480V Distribution, and PLCs, included adding new utility feed, 1000kVA pad mount transformer, new electrical room, new 1200A MCC, new main and two remote Control Logixs PLCs, and removing the existing distribution.

480V Distribution, included three new 2500A switchboards, new distribution, and the removal of the existing distribution.
480V Distribution, included new 1200A MCC, new main and three remote control Logix PLC.

STAFF AUGMENTATION - ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING MANAGER

Inspection and the repair of military occupied facilities to the standards defined by the NEC 2008 or the BS7671 17th edition codes.
Over 3,000,000 square feet of facilities were inspected or repaired.
A total of 68 generator optimization projects performed totaling over 18MVA of generation optimized for an estimated savings of over $8,000,000 dollars annually.
Provided support and oversight from the following Afghanistan hub locations: Kabul, Afghanistan Bagram, Afghanistan Kandahar, Afghanistan Leatherneck, Afghanistan

Calculations and designs consisted of confidential details/locations required for the construction of military bases in a warzone. During all of the above mentioned items I performed calculations to design and approved the design of the following:

Lead electrical engineer and project manage for a multi-year project that involves the removal and replacing of exicter cabinets and control systems for synchronous motors that range from 1500hp at 6.9kV to 9000hp at 6.9kV.

Lead electrical engineer and project manager for a blockchain mining facility that included the safe switching of electrical power from a 230kVutility feed and a 34.5KV windfarm feed. The estimated load began in phase 1 at 6MW and at 30MW at phase 2. Load distribution was 1MW per miner building. Low voltage distribution was at 480V/277V/240V/120V and used delta-delta transformers for harmonic mitigation. The project used busway for low voltage distribution inside the miner buildings.

Lead electrical engineer and project manager for the design and installation of mini-data centers. These mini-data centers are used for secure data. Project consisted of containerized data centers that are connected to wind farms via various configuration schemes. Included 34.5kV overhead and underground distribution, medium voltage switchgear, grounding grids, 34.5kV/480V transformers, switchboards, and panelboards.

Lead electrical engineer for the design and cost estimation of a 325MVA solar field that consisted of the integration of an existing 44kV and 135kV distribution and transmission system. Due to the topographical constraints of the existing site the sites solar production was broken up into multiple individual smaller solar fields. The mini solar fields were as follows; two 30MVA, one 15MVA, and two 125MVA. The project utilized ABB PVS980 inverters and step up transformers and medium voltage switchgear to produce the 44kV distribution voltage and high voltage gear to produce the 135kV transmission voltage.
